SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's swimming and diving team opens up their season on Thursday at home against Texas A&M with a 4 p.m. dual meet at the Barshop Natatorium.
The Cardinals and Aggies have met up each of the past four seasons with the Aggies winning a dual meet last year, 138-98 in College Station. UIW, a power at the NCAA Division II level over the past five years, makes the jump to NCAA Division I this season. This is one of the three dual meets the team is hosting on campus after hosting all of their meets at the Palo Alto Natatorium last year.
The Cardinals return seven swimmers who earned NCAA Division II All-America honors in 2012-13. The top returners are
Thiago Parravicini,
Evandro Silva and
Daniel Torres. Parravicini is a former NCAA Division II national record holder in the 200 breaststroke. He was an All-American in both breaststroke events and a pair of relays. Silva joined the team at the semester break last year and proceeded to rip off some of the fastest times in school history and he eventually earned six All-America honors. Torres has put together a pair of outstanding seasons and has a total of 11 All-America awards to his name.
The Aggies finished 24
th in the nation last year and were ranked 17
th in the country in the final regular season poll.
