Biography

2012-13 (Junior): Torres continued his storied UIW career with six more CSCAA All-America citations in 200 backstroke, 200 individual medley, 400 individual medley, 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay. He was also an Honorable Mention All-American in the 100 backstroke. He was named to the RMAC All-Academic Second Team. He set the school record in the 400 IM at the UIW Christmas Invite swimming a time of 3:50.55. At the UIW January Meet he won the 100 backstroke and 200 IM. He swam the first leg on the record-setting 200 and 400 medley relay teams. He is third in school history with 11 CSCAA All-America citations in his career.

2011-12 (Sophomore): Torres earned four individual All-America honors in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke and 200 and 400-yard individual medley events. He set the school record in the 100 backstroke in the NCAA preliminaries with a time of 48.34 and then broke the record a second time in the finals with a time of 48.50 to take fourth place. He took fourth place in the 200 backstroke and sixth place in both IM events. He swam the lead leg of the NCAA third place 200-yard medley relay team to earn a fifth First Team All-America citation. At the RMAC Championships he won the 200 backstroke to earn first team honors and he was third team in the 200 IM. He swam the opening leg on the 200 and 400-yard medley relay teams that both took second in the conference. He was named to the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Previous: Torres swam one year at Lake Erie College. He hit the "B" cut time in the 200 and 400-yard individual medley and 200-yard backstroke.

High School: Torres swam at COBACH 3 in Mexico. He was the 2009 Mexican Nationals sub-champion in the 200-yard individual medley and 50-yard backstroke for the 17-18 age group. He also played soccer and basketball.

Personal: Torres is the son of Gerardo Torres and Cristy Samaniego and is studying international business. He has a sister, Luisa. He was born on June 9, 1991. His mother was a collegiate swimmer in Mexico.
