Cardinals Swim at Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to Texas A&M on Friday night for a dual meet with the Aggies.  Both Cardinals teams lost, but put up a good fight.  The men lost, 138-98 and the women lost, 139-98. (Results)

The men racked up a total of four victories and four more second place finishes.  They swept the top three spots in both the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke.  In the 500, Mark Rubin (Phoenix, AZ/Shadow Mountain HS) was first in 4:33.27, Michael Quam (Ojai, CA/Robert E. Lee HS) and Connor Hennessey (San Antonio/Business Careers HS) followed in 4:40.47 and 4:41.89, respectively.  Thiago Parravicini (Rio de Janiero, Brazil/C.E.L.) took the breaststroke in 55.52 while Rostik Fedyna was second in 56.76 and Radu Pruniou (Frisco/Frisco HS) was third in 58.34.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Evandro Silva (Guaruja, Brazil/Colegio do Carmo), Fedyna, Scott Jonsson (New Braunfels/Canyon HS) and Joey Reeves (San Antonio/Home School) won in a time of 1:24.74.  Earlier in the meet, Silva won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:51.96.

The teams are back in action next weekend with the UIW January Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Palo Alto Natatorium.
