After Saturday's action was canceled due to weather, the University of the Incarnate Word baseball team took the field against Eastern New Mexico in a Portales doubleheader and got two more conference wins.
The two victories completed a three-game sweep over the Greyhounds and improved UIW's overall record to 16-15 and has them at 11-8 in the Lone Star Conference.
In game one, the Cardinals had 12 hits, including a 3-for-4 effort by Jordan Littlefield and two-hit games by John Zule, Slade Brown and Jason Stone.
Jorge Guarneros improved his record to 5-3 on the year with a 7-inning effort with six strikeouts. Dylan Boss took the mound in the 6th and went two innings for his third save of the season.
UIW trailed, 3-0, in the 5th inning before scoring four runs in the top of the 6th – the bulk of those runs coming on a 3 RBI home run by Littlefield that gave Incarnate Word the lead.
In game two, Littlefield continued to terrorize ENMU pitching with a 2-for-5 outing that included 4 RBIs and three trips home. Helping score runs were Stone's 4-for-4 (3 RBIs), Hector Flores's 3-for-4 (2 RBIs), and Thomas Rinn's 3-for-6 with two runs and three RBIs.
Eastern New Mexico was ahead, 8-7 going into the 6th inning before UIW scored 11 runs (thanks to 9 hits and 3 ENMU errors) for a 19-8 lead. Littlefield hit a two-run homer in the inning as well.
Incarnate Word's Marc Gomez pitched 5 complete inning, striking out 8 Greyhounds, to remain undefeated at 4-0 this season. Justin Kanas and Zach Anderson both pitched for one inning in relief.
The Cardinals will play host to West Texas A&M University this upcoming weekend, starting on Friday.
