After winning all three doubles matches to start the day, the Incarnate Word men's tennis team narrowly pulled off the upset of 18^th ranked Cameron University 6-3.

The Cardinals got off to a hot start winning all three doubles matches against the third ranked team in the South Central Region. All three matches were won by the score of 8-4.

The singles matches are where the day got interesting. Incarnate Word dropped the first two matches to let Cameron right back into the game. Duje Janjic easily got by Cardinals Chris Lawson (6-0, 6-2) and Carlos Olvera dropped a heartbreaker to Thomas Peixoto (6-2, 4-6, 6-4).

The two biggest matches of the day for the Cardinals came at the three and four spots. UIW's Brandon Davis started things off with a huge victory over Gonzalo Garzon (6-3, 2-6, 6-4). David Ballenger's match, lasting over three hours, eventually decided the game. After falling short in a second set tiebreak, Ballenger won a third set tiebreak to win the match.

In a marathon match, Cardinals Luke Trautmann and Aggies Jorge Jerosi took over four hours to find a winner. Trautmann fell just short after a 10 point breaker. (5-7, 7-6, 2-10)

Playing in his first match of the season, Kevin Rodriguez picked up his first singles victory of his career. He beat Mateus Campos in three sets (1-6, 6-2, 6-4)

Next up for the Cardinals will be a non-conference match against Our Lady of the Lake next Saturday at 9:30 AM at the Mabry Tennis Courts.
