After rain delayand a partial cancellation of their 3-game series, the University of the Incarnate Word and St. Edward's University were finally able to play a baseball game on Monday afternoon, with the Cardinals and Hilltoppers playing one nine-inning game in Austin.
The Cardinals, while scoring a season-high seven runs against SEU, ultimately fell to St. Edward's, 13-7, even though they had a two home-run outing by catcher Zac Russell.
Russell scored three runs total and drove in 4 Cardinals while going 2-for-3 at the plate (he was hit by a pitch before hitting homers in the 7th and 8th).
Hector Flores went 2-for-2 with 2 runs coming off the bench to play 2nd base for UIW.
Starting pitchers Kirk Jewasko and Jorge Guarneros both saw time on the mound on Monday and the latter would end up with the loss in a game that saw multiple pitchers get time at the rubber to get work in for both teams.
Incarnate Word is now 1-3 on the year, but has seen 7 games of its schedule be lost to weather-related cancellations.
UIW will play host to Houston-Victoria this weekend in a 3-game series at Sullivan Field, starting on Friday at 3 p.m. with a nine-inning matchup.
