VOLLEYBALL HOSTS #9 BELLES

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team is looking to pick up a much needed win at home on Friday at 7 p.m. against Lone Star Conference rival Angelo State University.

The Cardinals (8-17, 5-10) were swept by the No. 9 Rambelles (22-3, 15-1) in their last meeting this season, 25-9, 25-14 and 25-16. The Cardinals currently average 12.1 kills and 18.0 digs per set this season. With 215 kills and an average of 2.56 kills per set, freshman Angelique Viddauri (San Antonio/Southwest HS) continues to lead the Cardinals offense. Closing in on Vidaurri's lead is sophomore Kelci Lind (Lindale/Lindale HS) with an average 2.38 kills per set. Danielle Suarez (San Antonio/Antonian Prep) leads UIW in assists with an average of 5.50 per set and she has contributed 214 digs on the season.  Lydia Werchan (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) has registered 471 digs this season and leads the team as well as the conference.

Statistically, the Belles are a very strong team. They currently hold the top spot in the Lone Star Conference standings, ahead of second place Tarleton (20-6, 13-3) by a comfortable margin. The Belles are averaging 14.7 kills a set along with 21.0 digs per set this season.  Shelbi Goode is the center of the Angelo State offense with 322 kills and an average of 3.98 kills per set. Defensively, Shelby Wilt has had a strong presence for the Belles. Wilt currently averages 5.29 digs per set and has 450 digs on the season.  

After Friday's match against Angelo State, the Cardinals will match up against Tarleton State on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the McDermott Center.
