CARDINALS PUT SEVEN ON ALL-LSC TEAM

CANYON, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word led all teams with seven players named All-Lone Star Conference on Wednesday evening during the championship banquet hosted by regular season champion West Texas A&M.

The Cardinals had three first-team selections, a trio on the second-team and one honorable mention pick.  They also claimed a pair of special awards with Defensive Player of the Year Sarah Parker (San Antonio/Marshall HS) and Newcomer of the Year Katie Miller (Tyler/Home School).

Parker was also named a first-team choice.  The junior defender led a strong Cardinals defense that posted a 1.17 goals against average for the season and allowed only 9.5 shots per game.  She was able to contribute on the offensive end as well with two goals, including a game-winner at Texas A&M-Commerce.

Miller is a transfer from Tyler Junior College.  She is the team's third leading scorer with three goals, three assists and two game-winning goals.

Junior forward Sydney Solomon (Schertz/Randolph HS) and junior midfielder Amber Guenther (San Antonio/Johnson HS) earned LSC First Team honors for the Cardinals.  Solomon is the team's second leading scorer with six goals, three assists and three game-winning goals.  She was the LSC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a hat-trick against West Texas A&M.  Guenther was named all-conference for the third time in her career, but it was her first time on the First Team.  She leads the team with seven goals, three assists and two game-winning goals.  She was named the LSC Offensive Player of the Week after recording a hat-trick at West Texas A&M.

The three Cardinals on the LSC Second Team were freshman defender Elizabeth Washington (Frisco/Centennial HS), sophomore midfielder Sarah Johnson (Austin/Home School) and senior midfielder Samantha Johnson (Austin/Home School).  Washington held down the central defense for the Cardinals and teamed well with Parker.  The Johnson sisters each provided a two-way threat as they can score, a combined three goals and seven assists, and defend.  It was the first time either earned all-conference honors.

The final Cardinal honored was freshman goalkeeper Heather Kowalik (Boerne/Champion HS) who was named Honorable Mention.  She finished the regular season with an 8-5 record, 1.10 GAA and 4.0 shutouts.

The Cardinals are the #2 seed in the LSC Tournament and will play the winner of the Angelo State-Texas Woman's game on Friday at 5 p.m. at West Texas A&M's “The Pitch.”
