VOLLEYBALL HEADS TO ABILENE

ABILENE, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team is looking to pick up a win on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Lone Star Conference foe Abilene Christian University at their place.

The Cardinals (8-15, 5-9) swept the Wildcats (9-15, 5-9) in their last meeting this season, 25-20, 25-18 and 25-9.  The Cardinals currently average 12.1 kills and 17.6 digs per set this season.  With 197 kills and an average of 2.59 kills per set, freshman Angelique Viddauri (San Antonio/Southwest HS) leads the Cardinals offense.  Right behind Vidaurri is sophomore Kelci Lind (Lindale/Lindale HS) with an average 2.42 kills per set.  Danielle Suarez (San Antonio/Antonian Prep) leads UIW in assists with an average of 5.64 per set and contributes to the Cardinal defense with 2.38 digs per set. Lydia Werchan (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) has registered 423 digs this season and leads the team.

Statistically, the Wildcats match up pretty well with the Cardinals.  ACU currently averages 12.3 kills and 16.4 digs per set this season.  Sara Oxford, averaging 3.17 kills per set, heads up the Wildcat offense.  Defensively, there are three Wildcats that average more than two digs per set.  With 196 total digs, Oxford leads her team in this category as well.

After Saturday's match against Abilene Christian, the Cardinals will head to Austin, TX for a non-conference game against St. Edward's on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.
