UIW SOCCER DOUBLEHEADER

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word's Benson Stadium will serve as the site of a soccer doubleheader on Friday night.  The UIW women host Lone Star Conference rival Angelo State at 5 p.m. and it is followed by the UIW men against LSC rival Midwestern State at 7:30 p.m.

The women's game is the final regular season game of the year for the Cardinals (9-6, 9-4).  They have three seniors; Hannah Collazo (San Antonio/O'Connor HS), Jordyn Garcia (Cedar Park/Leander HS) and Samantha Johnson (Austin/Home School) who are playing their final home regular season game.  A win for the Cardinals would guarantee a regular season Lone Star Conference title and a chance to host the LSC Tournament.  They defeated the Belles (9-7-1, 7-5-1), 1-0 earlier in the season.

Collazo is in her first year with the Cardinals and has appeared in 13 games, mostly as a defender.  Previously, she played a year at UT-San Antonio and two years at Our Lady of the Lake where she scored 25 goals and was a two-time All-Red River Athletic Conference choice.

Garcia is in her third year with the Cardinals and has appeared in a total of 48 games.  She started 17 games as a sophomore and four more as a junior on defense.  This year, she has figured in offensively with three goals on only six shot attempts.

Johnson is in her fourth year with UIW and has played in 63 games.  She is a two-time Capital One Academic All-District VI selection.  She has scored five goals and dished out eight assists in her career.  She had four assists last year and three more this year.

The men's soccer team is currently ranked #7 in the nation and #2 in the South Central Region.  They are 11-2 with a 4-0 mark in conference play and are riding an 11-game winning streak.  They knocked off the Mustangs (8-2-4, 0-2-1), 3-2 in overtime earlier in the season on the road.

The Cardinals are one of the highest scoring team's in the country with 42 goals in 13 games.  Junior Vincent Bailey (Southhampton, Eng./Savio HS) leads the team with 14 goals and six assists.  Alex de la Garza (Mission/Sharyland HS) is the team's second-leading scorer with four goals and two assists.  The defense has allowed just 13 goals on the season.

Both games will be broadcast at http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/uiw.portal#.
