ANGELO STATE TOO STRONG FOR CARDINALS

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – The ninth-ranked Angelo State volleyball team was too strong for visiting University of the Incarnate Word on Tuesday night.  The Belles won in three sets by a score of 25-9, 25-14, 25-16 at Stephen Arena.  (Box Score)

The Cardinals (8-15, 5-9) struggled against a tough defensive Angelo State squad that picked up 74 digs and 7.0 blocks.  UIW only managed 18 kills in the match and were held to a -.048 attack.

ASU was led on offense by Maddie Huth who had 10 kills, five blocks and a .600 attack.  Kaelen Valdez added 10 kills, 21 digs and a .321 attack.  Overall, they had 44 kills and a .242 attack.  Alex Woolsey dished out 32 assists and had 12 digs.

Angelique Vidaurri (San Antonio/Southwest HS) led the Cardinals with six kills.  On defense, Lydia Werchan (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley HS) led the team with 19 digs while Kelci Lind (Lindale/Lindale HS) added 11 digs.

The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Abilene Christian.
