CARDINALS HEAD TO JAVELINA TERRITORY

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – For the first time in the program's history, the University of the Incarnate Word football team will play a road game at Lone Star Conference rival Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday at 7 p.m. inside Javelina Stadium.

The Cardinals (2-4, 1-3) and Javelinas (2-4, 1-3) have met on two other occasions, both times at Benson Field.  The Javelinas won both games, including a 41-38 victory last year that came down to a 50-yard field goal that hit off the bar and fell short.

The Cardinals are coming off a 31-9 victory over Texas A&M-Commerce last week.  They are averaging 100 yards rushing and 175 yards passing per game.  Senior quarterback Zach Rhodes (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) is 76-of-137 for 798 yards and six touchdowns passing while throwing only five interceptions.  He is also second on the team with 176 yards rushing on the season.  Trent Rios (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley HS) leads the team with 266 yards rushing and four total touchdowns on the season.  Tight end Andrew Mocio (Waco/Reicher Catholic HS) is the team's leading receiver with 18 catches for 153 yards.

The UIW defense had a school-record eight sacks last week and now has 15 on the season.  Dravannti Johnson (Nederland/Nederland HS) leads the team with three sacks and has 18 tackles.  Corner back Devan Avery (Converse/Wagner HS) has been outstanding this year with a conference best eight pass breakups and 19 tackles.  Dakota Mawyer (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley HS) leads the squad with 38 tackles on the season.

The Javelinas have lost four games in a row and are looking to snap their longest losing streak in nearly 20 years.  They are averaging 102 yards rushing and 265 yards passing per game.  Randall Toney is the team's leader on the ground with 250 yards while Jonathan Woodson has gained 208.  Nate Poppell and Bryan Ehrlich have both started multiple games at quarterback and have over 500 yards passing each.  Robert Armstrong (36 rec., 321 yards, 4 TD) and Sherman Batiste (31 rec., 442 yards, 3 TD) are big-time threats on the outside.

The defense is led by linebacker Jeremy Aguilar, the LSC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.  He has 53 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and an interception on the year.  Zane Brown leads the team with 3.5 sacks.

The game will be streamed live at www.tamuk.edu/live and can be listened to on radio at KKYX 680 AM or online at www.kuiw.com.
