Revenge is sweet. The Cardinals travelled to Laredo on Monday to take on Texas A&M International in a non-conference match up. UIW swept A&M International, earning their first sweep of the season. The Cardinals were swept by the Dustdevils earlier in the season, making the win even sweeter. The Cardinals are now 9-7 overall.
Senior middle blocker Daniella Vidaurri and freshman outside hitter Kelci Lind both had nine kills, leading the Cardinals. Senior setter Sarah Nordman and sophomore setter Danielle Suarez combined for 29 of the team's 33 assists. Nordman had 13 and Suarez had 16.
When it came to defense, junior libero did what she does best with 21 digs.
UIW maintained a .208 hitting percentage in the sweep.
The Dustdevils had a mere 37 kills during the match. Junior setter Daria Winckler had 28 of the team's 31 assists. Sophomore libero Desiree Ortiz held down the Dustdevil defense with 21 digs. Helping her was freshman middle hitter Katrina Zens with four blocks – two solo blocks and two block assists.
The Cardinals will have a week off before resuming conference play and taking on Texas A&M-Kingsville at home on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
