CARDINALS EFFORTS LED BY BARRE’

Freshman Elodie Barre' did a couple of things at the annual UIW Track and Field Invitational last weekend.

She won the women's long jump as the lone Cardinals victory of the event. Her leap was 5.66 meters (18-07.00) and it came in the preliminaries.  She passed on her finals jumps in order to save energy for this coming weekend when she competes at the NCAA Division II National Indoor Championships.

Barre' goes to the indoor meet with the nation's ninth best time of the season in the 200-meters, a time of 24.63 feet. The nationals will be conducted in Albuquerque, N.M.

In addition to her trip to the indoor meet, her 5.66 meters at the UIW Invitational gives her a provisional position for the outdoor national meet in May.

Shaneve Swift
Incarnate Word's 4x400-meter relay team crossed the line second with a time of 4:07.02 which is a UIW school record. That was good for second. The foursome was Stacy Stanush, Lindsey Isaacson, Alma Santos and Shaneve Swift.

The Cardinals got a pair of fourth place finishes at the meet. Freshman Shaneve Swift clocked a 59.98 in the 400-meters to finish fourth followed not too much later by sophomore Lilya Piskunova's fourth place in the triple jump with a leap of 10.99 meters (36-00.75).

Like their male counterparts the women Cardinals next will compete at the Tarleton State Invitational on March 10 in Stephenville.
