INCARNATE WORD 3, TEXAS A&M INTERNATIONAL 1

(21-25, 25-11, 25-15, 25-15)

The Cardinals closed their 2011 season with a non conference home win against Texas A&M International on Tuesday night.  Honoring seniors Chelsea Grayson, Anna Herr, Mary Beth Huber, Sarah Nordman, Chera Smith and Daniella Vidaurri, the Cardinals played their hearts out for one last win.

Getting off to a rough start, UIW dropped the first set to the Dustdevils due to inconsistency and errors.  The Cardinals brought it in set two.  Getting off to an 8-0 start with the help of freshman Kelci Lind, the Cardinals wouldn't fall behind the Dustdevils for the rest of the match.  The Cardinals held Texas A&M International to a mere 11 points in the second set and just 15 in sets three and four.

Blocking was the name of the game for UIW against the Dustdevils.  With 15 total team blocks, the Cardinals out blocked Texas A&M International by 6 total blocks.  Contributing to these blocks were the stars of the night: the seniors.  Vidaurri led with 7 blocks; 4 block assists and 3 solo blocks.  Behind her was Herr with 5 blocks; 4 solo blocks and 1 block assist.  Smith had 4 blocks and Grayson had 3.

Smith not only contributed to the team's total blocks, she also led the team in kills with 11 and tied junior Lydia Werchan for the most digs with 14.  Herr, Grayson, Vidaurri and Lind were the closest in kills behind Smith with 6 a piece.  Nordman and sophomore Danielle Suarez led the Cardinals in assists as usual with 13 and 20 respectively.  Nordman also had 2 kills.

The Cardinals maintained a .193 hitting percentage compared to Texas A&M International's .037.

For the Dustdevils, junior Andrea Marshall led in kills with 15 while junior Daria Winckler led in assists with 33.  Sophomore Desiree Ortiz led the Dustdevil defense with 25 digs and junior Jacquelynne Matula and freshman Katrina Zens both picked up 3 blocks.

The Cardinals ended the season 11-18 overall and 6-14 in the Lone Star Conference.
