TEXAS A&M KINGSVILLE 3, INCARNATE WORD 0
(25-22, 25-22, 25-22)
After an eight day break from matches, the Cardinals took on the Javelinas of Texas A&M Kingsville. The Cardinals started set one with an early lead, but that lead quickly diminished and the Cardinals wouldn't lead again until set three. Even then, UIW's efforts just didn't match up to the Javelinas who beat the Cardinals 3-0.
Senior outside hitter Chelsea Grayson and sophomore outside hitter Elizabeth Soukup led the Cardinals in kills with 10 each and senior middle blocker Daniella Vidaurri was right behind them with seven. Grayson also accumulated three block assists in the three sets.
Sophomore setter and two-time LSC setter of the week Danielle Suarez led the Cardinals in assists with 21 and Lydia Werchan, junior libero, was the dig leader for UIW with 19.
The Cardinals had a mere 0.167 hitting percentage over the three set match, contributing to their scoring troubles.
Freshman outside hitter Kelsey Washington and sophomore outside hitter Bethany Friesenhahn held the top spots in kills for the Javelinas with 14 and 13 respectively. Sondra Cui, senior setter, led A&M Kingsville in assists with 31. Junior libero Ali Insell did her best to keep the Cardinals from scoring with 18 digs.
The Cardinals next two matches will be on the road against Tarleton State on Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. and Angelo State on Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. The Cardinals will return home on Oct. 13 for a match against West Texas A&M.
After losing to the Javelinas, the Cardinals are now 9-8 overall and 5-5 in the LSC.
