The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team ended their losing skid on Sunday, defeating West Texas A&M, 2-1, in Canyon.
Defender Maggie Schrader and forward Sydney Solomon both scored their first goals of the season in the first half to put Incarnate Word up, 2-0, at 23:07 and 24:29 on the clock, respectively.
West Texas responded with a first-half goal of their own in the 39th minute, but UIW (5-7-4 overall, 3-7-3 in the Lone Star Conference) fended off any attempts to tie the game throughout the entire second half and earned the victory.
The win ended a six-game losing streak and eight-game winless streak (UIW had two draws before their six-game slide) for the Cardinals.
In goal for Incarnate Word was freshman Sarah Johnson, who was one of a few different players to have spent time in-goal for UIW since starting goalkeeper Tori Puentes was injured two weeks ago. She earned the win, making one save in the process.
The Cardinals wrap up the season on Friday with a 3 p.m. game in San Angelo against Angelo State University.
