ANOTHER OVERTIME FOR WOMEN'S TEAM

The UIW women's soccer team went to overtime for the third straight game on Sunday, but lost in the first extra period to West Texas A&M, 2-1, at Gayle & Tom Benson Stadium.

The Cardinals (4-2-4 overall, 2-2-3) scored in the first half in the 39th minute when Sam Cole, just minutes after getting subbed into the contest, got a pass from Angelica Carrizales mid-stride in the box for the go-ahead goal.

But West Texas scored in the 70th minute of the second half on a long shot outside the penalty area to knot things up at 1-1, which sent the game into overtime.

In the first extra period, the Lady Buffs scored the game-winner at 94:55 when another long shot got through a long line of players from both teams and clanged in off the far post.

UIW out-shot WTAMU, 17-13, but couldn't put away one-time chances throughout the contest.

Incarnate Word's next game will be on the road against Texas Woman's University on Friday at 4 p.m.
