CARDINALS DROP 1-0 DECISION TO MSU

Sydney Solomon tries to split two Midwestern State defenders on Sunday. The Cardinals lost, 1-0.

In the final home game of the 2011 season, the University of the Incarnate Word women's team lost a close game to visiting Midwestern State University, 1-0, on Sunday.

The Mustangs scored in the 3rd minute of the game for the early lead, but for the duration of the game, the two teams fought neck-and-neck the rest of the way.

The Cardinals (4-6-4, 2-6-3 in the Lone Star Conference) peppered the MSU goal with 11 shots, forcing four saves, while Midwestern State had 10 shots.

Other statistics that were nearly identical were the number of corner kicks by each squad – 6 for UIW and 5 for MSU.

The Cardinals will be back in action on Friday at 4 p.m. against Eastern New Mexico.
