Sophomore midfielder Samantha Johnson earned the first award of her young University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer career, being named to the 2010 CoSIDA Academic All-District VI Soccer First Team for her work in the classroom.

Johnson, who has two goals and an assist this season, was recognized for her 3.92 grade point average in the Biology degree field at UIW while also getting a minor in Chemistry. The Austin, TX, native has started 15-of-17 games for the Cardinals in just her second season.

The news of Johnson's award comes just before she and her teammates head to Wichita Falls for the 2010 Lone Star Conference Women's Soccer Championship – a six-team, single-elimination tournament set to begin this Thursday.

UIW (9-6-2 overall, 7-4 conference) finished the regular season as the 4th-place squad and, thus, is the fourth seed for the tournament at MSU Stadium. The Cardinals will face the University of Central Oklahoma on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. and will face No. 2-seeded Midwestern State University on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Cardinals defeated UCO, 1-0 in overtime on October 3rd, at Benson Stadium, but lost to MSU, 1-0 in regulation, at Benson on October 22nd.
