The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team only got three shots on-goal while on the road against Texas Women's University on Friday afternoon, but one of those shots came from senior forward Sarah Hernandez, who scored in the second overtime period of the day to give UIW the 1-0 victory.
Incarnate Word (5-3-2, 3-1-0) is on a three-game winning streak and has had Hernandez leading them on the offensive side of the ball all season. The goal against TWU was her seventh of the year and gives her 15 points (she leads the Cardinals in both categories).
Hernandez was set up by freshman Amber Guenther, whose pass to found Hernandez at the top of the penalty area and allowed one of the leading scorers in the Lone Star Conference to fire a shot into the upper-left corner of the goal for the win.
On the other side of the field, Tori Puentes and the UIW defenders earn their third straight shutout victory in as many games, with Puentes making 8 saves in 104:02 minutes of play.
Incarnate Word will next face Texas A&M University-Commerce on Sunday in another LSC contest.
