The Incarnate Word women's soccer team played an overtime matchup against Lone Star Conference foe University of Central Oklahoma, earning the 1-0 victory on a golden goal by senior forward Sarah Hernandez.
In the 103rd minute of play, freshman Amber Guenther threaded a pass through three Broncho defenders that found Hernandez, in stride, five yards in front of the UCO goal and Hernandez expertly shot the ball low past the goalie into the corner of the net.
The goal was Hernandez's sixth of the season (she leads the team) and it gave UIW a 2-1 Lone Star Conference record and improved the team to 4-3-2 overall on the season.
Both teams put the opposing goalies under siege throughout the contest, with UCO's Samantha Rusk making 10 saves and UIW's Tori Puentes stopping 11 potential shots.
It is the second straight shutout win (both at home) for the Cardinals, who went winless over three games last week (two losses and a tie).
UIW will be at Texas Women's University in Denton on Friday and at Texas A&M-Commerce on Sunday this upcoming weekend.
