Finally back at Benson Stadium for a home stand, the University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team defeated Lone Star Conference foe Southwestern Oklahoma State University, 2-0, on Friday night.
Sarah Flores scored her first-ever goal as a Cardinal moments after getting subbed into the game in the 32nd minute of the first half, putting a loose ball in front of the goal past the SWOSU goalkeeper to give Incarnate Word (3-3-2 overall, 1-1 Lone Star) the 1-0 lead.
Minutes later, Sydney Solomon, who had been put into the game in the same substitution as Flores, scored her second goal of the season, one-timing a header out of a pile of players from teammate Sasha Vrany, for the 2-0 lead.
The assist was the first of Vrany's career.
The win ends a three-game winless streak for UIW which saw the Cardinals lose two and tie on game last week. Incarnate Word hosts Central Oklahoma at noon on Sunday.
