Playing at home for the first time this season, the No. 6-ranked University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team destroyed visiting Texas A&M International University, 8-0, to remain unbeaten and start off Heartland Conference play with a victory.
Junior Sarah Hernandez continued to pour on the offense, scoring two goals in the first half to give her six goals in just three games, burying a header to start things off just 12 minutes into the game and then adding her second by finishing off a rebound in front of the TAMIU net
Lianah Flores peppered the goal with seven shots, scoring her first and second goals of the season while Cassidy Ballantyne, Ashley Phipps and Jane Vosteen all scored their first goals of the season. Keri Dawson added two assists – the first on Hernandez's first goal and the second on the last goal of the night, a header by Vosteen on a free kick.
Goalkeeper Tori Puentes earned her third win of the season, facing no shots on-net. She and backup goalkeeper Claire Robinson combined for the shutout.
Up next for the women is a Friday night tilt at Gayle & Tom Benson Stadium against No. 11-ranked Rollins Collins at 6 p.m. Then, on Sunday, UIW plays host to Texas Women's University at 1 p.m.
