HERNANDEZ SISTERS COMBINE TO LEAD UIW WOMEN TO VICTORY

The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team played its first game of the 2009 season at a neutral site against Central Oklahoma on Friday, coming back from a one-goal deficit in the second half for  2-1 victory.

Sisters Emily and Sarah Hernandez scored goals in the second half to bring the Cardinals back from a 1-0 deficit early in the second half in a three-minute span.

The first UIW goal happened when Cassidy Ballantyne sent a long pass to Sarah Hernandez, forcing the Central Oklahoma goalkeeper out of the goal. Hernandez chipped a shot over the goalie to tie the game at 1-1 in the 57th minute.

Hernandez had a part in the second goal as well, setting up her sister Emily with a one-time blast in the 60th minute for the 2-1 lead.

Tori Puentes made five saves in her first victory of the season.

The Cardinals (1-0-0) will travel back to St.Edward's University in Austin to play Missouri Southern at 10 a.m.
