CARDS, JETS BATTLE THROUGH WEATHER FOR 1-1 TIE

Lauren Evans scored the lone goal for UIW in Sunday's 1-1 tie in Kansas.

Traveling up north to Kansas for a Heartland Conference matchup against Newman University, the Incarnate Word women's soccer team faced not only the Jets, but cold weather, wet weather and strong winds as both teams fought through the elements for a 1-1 tie.

Both teams scored in the first half, while UIW spent the majority of the contest as the aggressor.

The Cardinals (10-2-3 overall, 5-1-1 conference) scored in the 21st minute after Sam Cole ripped a shot that ricocheted off the cross bar to a waiting Lauren Evans, who put in the rebound for the 1-0 lead.

Newman (6-5-4, 4-2-2) scored in the 36th minute of the game off a free kick by Heather Baloga.

UIW continued to pile on the shots at opposing goalkeepers, firing the ball off 21 times (11 of which were on-net). Despite the one-sided shots figures on the stat sheets, neither team could get the game-winner in the second half or either overtime period.

Up next for the Cardinals is a Thursday matchup on the road against Texas-Permian Basin at 4 p.m.

UIW defeated UTPB, 2-1, at Benson Stadium on October 3rd.
