SAN ANTONIO -- Tarleton State kept up the pressure the entire second half, but the University of the Incarnate Word defense held the Texans off, as the teams played to a scoreless draw in women's soccer Thursday night.
The Cardinals were out-shot 7-2 in the second half, but the back line and keeper
Hannah Alexander withstood an attack that stayed aggressive until the very end, as a loose ball inched towards the UIW net with under 10 seconds to play, only for it to be kicked away.
Alexander finished with five saves as the defense pitched its third shutout of the season, Incarnate Word has only surrendered one goal in three home games this season.
Thursday marked UIW's first tie
since a 1-1 final against Stephen F. Austin on Oct. 23 of last year.Â
Now 3-3-1 on the season, the Cardinals get a week off before traveling across town to face UTSA at 7 p.m. on Sept. 10.
