SAN ANTONIO -- After successfully starting the 2026 season at the Sam Musgrave UIW Twilight, the University of the Incarnate Word men's and women's cross country teams will host a second meet, the UIW Invitational, on Saturday.

The Invitational will be run at the Windcrest Golf Club in San Antonio. The men's race will begin at 8 a.m. with the women starting immediately after.

Saturday's race will have a similar look to the Twilight, in which the Cardinal men took first and the women took second. UIW will also get a look at a Southland Conference foe, as UTRGV will be part of the field.

MEN'S RACE: UIW should be in line for another win, after recording a top score of 28 points at the UIW Twilight, easily topping the 57 points of second-place Texas State and the 63 of third-place UTSA.

All told, eight Cardinals finished in the top-20, with Jared Laverty (18:38.48), Christian Castro-Cruz (18:43.39), Ethan Malesich (18:45.18) and Jeremiah Garcia (18:46.09), taking positions three through six.

To get medalist honors, Incarnate Word will likely have to go through the top-two runners from the Twilight. Texas State's Jaxon Asbill took first in 18:15.69 while Andruw Villa was second in 18:17.47.

WOMEN'S RACE: The Cardinals will look to get into the win column after falling short by just four points (31-35) to Texas State at the Twilight race.

Runner-up Emily Torres (14:17.37) and third-place Oceane Cercueil (14:25.22), will lead a group trying to catch Texas State's Alexia Macias, who won in 14:06.92.

The Cardinals will also try to get a leg-up on UTRGV, who finished third at the 2025 Southland Conference Championships, one spot ahead of UIW.
