SAN ANTONIO, Texas - University of the Incarnate Word baseball outfielder Jake Weaver was named Southland Conference Hitter of the Week on Monday.
 
Weaver, a senior from Waco, Texas, went 7-for-17 at the plate in four games over the course of the week, one against Abilene Christian and three against New Orleans. Weaver drove in nine runs while managing four extra base hits, including a pair of two-run home runs against the Privateers on Sunday. He also walked three times and scored six runs.
 
Weaver led the Cardinals to a 3-1 record last week, including a 2-1 series victory on the road over New Orleans. The Cardinals scored at least seven runs in all four contests and tallied 13 twice.
 
For the season, Weaver paces UIW in batting average (.397), on-base percentage (.531), slugging percentage (.753), OPS (1.284), runs scored (24), hits (29), RBI (24), total bases (55) and is tied for the team lead in home runs with five. He leads the conference in on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, runs scored and total bases.
 
Weaver and the Cardinals return to action on Wednesday at 4:05 p.m. at Abilene Christian. They host a three-game series against Southland foe Nicholls this weekend.
