The Incarnate Word Women's Track and Field Team had a solid showing during Day 1 of the 2026 Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Besides the Women's Pentathlon taking place, the only two track finals were the Women's 5000m run and the Women's 4000m Distance Medley Relay. Stoya Laydevant finished the 5000m race in 17:30.52 to place 10th, while the Incarnate Word relay team placed sixth with a time of 12:04.32.

In the field event finals, Alaine Hernandez took fourth in the Women's Pole Vault, clearing  3.64m. Iliana Singh cleared 3.54m on her first try but just missed on getting over the 3.64m bar to finish in 8th place for the event.

The Women's Pentathlon was completed on Day 1, with two Cardinals finding themselves within striking distance of a podium finish before settling for a fourth-place finish for Lexie Leal, who had 3,712 points, and a sixth-place finish for Dariana Luna, who had 3,507 points.

The first event of the Women's Pentathlon was the 60m Hurdles, which saw Luna come in second and Leal finish sixth. In the Pentathlon High Jump, it was Leal who took the number two spot, clearing 1.61m, while Luna tied for fifth at 1.55m. Shot Put and Long Jump both saw the Cardinals duo lose some ground with the leaders, Luna finishing sixth and ninth, respectively, in the two events and Leal finishing ninth and fifth, respectively. But both had a strong finish on the day with the 800m race as Leal finished a close second in 2:18.49 and Luna finished seventh to close out the day's events.

Incarnate Word hits the track to wrap up the 2026 Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships tomorrow, February 26th, with the first events starting at 10:40 a.m.
