HOUSTON – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team lost their third game in a row to Houston Christian, 75-81, on Tuesday night.
Jordan Pyke started the game on fire and finished the game with 27 points and eight rebounds.
Tahj Staveskie scored 16 with 10 of those in coming in the second half, and
Harrison Reede rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points.
After HCU scored a quick five points
Jordan Pyke responded with eight of his own. This spurred on a 21-to-two run by the Cardinals, putting them in firm control of the game. Pyke continued to dominate on offense and defense finishing the half with 16 points, two blocks, and two steals, all while leading the squad with four rebounds.
While UIW held the lead for the remainder of the half the Huskies wouldn't go away that easy. After outscoring the Cardinals in the paint (18-14) and gaining the edge in points off turnovers (15-11) HCU was able to cut the lead to single digits, 37-29. UIW went into the break up 41-31.
Demari Williams completely took over scoring 16 points in the second half. The Huskies shot 27 free throws in the second half as the clawed their way back not only into the game, but back into the lead with just under seven minutes to go.
There was no turning back and HCU remained in the lead for the rest of the game, and the Cardinals fell 75-81.
