SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team fell to UTRGV 106-93 on Saturday night.
Jordan Pyke led the way once again scoring 33 points while
Tahj Staveskie had a solid second half to finish the game with 24.
Harold Woods recorded a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
The first half was all about
Jordan Pyke who scored 20 of the Cardinals first 29 points. He was rivaled by Jaylen Washington and Koree Cotton who each had 13 for UTRGV. IT was a tightly contested battle through 20 minutes, but the Vaqueros held a slight 44-42 lead heading into the locker room.
UIW struggled to find a rhythm out of the break which allowed UTGV to build a double-digit lead early in the second half. The Vaqueros dominated on the offensive end not turning the ball over a single time in the second half and making 12 3-pointers.
With just under five minutes left in the game Staveskie scored eight straight for the Cardinals to slightly cut into the Vaqueros lead, 77-92. UIW continued to chip away and after back-to-back 3-pointers from
Harrison Reede the Cardinals were just down 11. This was the closest the game would get as UIW lost by a final score of 106-93.
The Cardinals will get back on the road for a three game stretch, facing Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, McNeese and Southeaster Louisiana.
