SAN ANTONIO – The University of Incarnate Word basketball team dropped just its second home game of the season, 71-79, to Texas A&M – Corpus Christi on Saturday afternoon.
Tahj Staveskie scored points and
Davion Bailey added 16.
Harrison Reede was the other Cardinal to score in double figures, knocking down four shots from behind the arc for 12 points.
The first 10 minutes of the game were controlled by Corpus Christi who forced six turnovers and held UIW to just nine points. Harlod Woods was the only Cardinal to record more than one field goal in that time with four points. Bailey found a rhythm in the first half, knocking down three 3-pointers and finishing the first 20 minutes with 12. However, the turnovers continued to bite UIW, and the Cardinals trailed 37-22 at the break.
In the second half Staveskie joined the party after only scoring once in the first half nine of the Cardinals first 19 points. However, the Cardinals couldn't stop the Shakas from scoring and still trailed by 57-41 early on.
Staveskie's consistent scoring and
Harrison Reede's 3-pointers flipped the script and UIW cut the lead to single digits with five minutes remaining. The Cardinals battled until the end but it was too little too late as UIW fell by a final score of 71-79.
