SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word Athletic Department earned the 2025 Southland Conference SAAC Serves Award the conference announced earlier this week.
The Cardinals hosted the
We Scare Hunger food drive in collaboration with the San Antonio Food Bank from October 14
th through the 31
st with a goal of collecting non-perishable food items to support families as they prepare for the holiday season.
Over 50 student-athletes contributed with not only setting up drop-off bins all across campus, but also with outreach by creating flyers and encouraging teammates to join. Many UIW student-athletes led by example making donations of their own.
San Antonio faces many challenges when it comes to food insecurity. In 2024 approximately 17.4 percent of Bexar County residents were food insecure with around 23 percent of children being affected. UIW made a meaningful impact collecting 243 pounds of food which is equivalent of about 4,000 meals donated to the San Antonio Food Bank.
