NATCHITOCHES, LA. - The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team lost to Northwestern State University, 6-5 in extra innings at Brown-Stroud Field on Friday night.
After three scoreless innings, the Cardinals put up four runs in the fourth. Ryder Hernandez doubled in a run and later scored on an error. Daniel Calabrese singled in a run and JD Gregson scored on a wild pitch to give UIW a 4-0 lead.
The Demons scored two runs in the fifth to cut the deficit in half, 4-2.
A passed ball in the seventh pulled the Demons within one, and a sacrifice fly in the eighth tied the game at 4-4.
An error in the bottom of the tenth drove in the winning run to give NSU the win, 5-4.
The Cardinals and Demons return to Brown-Stroud Field for game two tomorrow afternoon. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
