NATCHITOCHES, LA. - The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team lost to Northwestern State University, 12-4 at Brown-Stroud Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Red and Black got on the board first, scoring two in the second. Rey Mendoza scored on a wild pitch, and Ryder Hernandez scored on a groundout by Tyler Cowan.
The Demons scored nine unanswered runs to take a 9-2 lead after the fifth.
Daniel Calabrese sent a two-run homer over the right field wall to cut the deficit to 9-4.
NSU scored one in the seventh and two in the eighth to bring the final score to 12-4.
The Cardinals and Demons return to Brown-Stroud Field for game three tomorrow afternoon. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
