SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team lost to Lamar University, 8-4 on Saturday at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
Gray Bane got the scoring started with his second homer of the year in the third. Daniel Calabrese extended UIW's lead later in the inning on a double to left center to give The Word a 2-0 lead.
Lamar scored four unearned runs in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. Later in the inning, Rob Liddington Jr. crushed his tenth homer of the season to pull the Cardinals within one, 4-3.
LU scored three in the sixth to extend the lead to 7-3.
Lamar added a run in the ninth bringing the score to 8-3. Brandon Burckel hit a pinch-hit homer in the ninth to bring the final score to 8-4.
UIW and Lamar will be back in action at Sullivan Field for game three tomorrow at 1p.m.
