SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team lost game three to Lamar University, 17-6 in seven innings, on Sunday at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
Lamar scored the game's first 14 runs, scoring two in the second, one in the third, and 11 in the fourth.
Brandon Burckel got the Cardinals on the board in the fourth on his second solo homer of the weekend. Later in the inning, Daniel Calabrese singled in a run to make the score 14-2.
Rob Liddington Jr. singled in a run in the fifth to bring the score to 14-3.
LU scored a run in the sixth on an RBI double to extend the lead to 15-3. Thomas Lyssy and Tyler Cowan recorded RBI singles in the home half of the sixth to bring the score to 15-5.
Lamar scored two runs in the seventh inning to extend the lead to 17-5. Rey Mendoza drove in his 32nd RBI of the season to bring the final score to 17-6. Earlier this weekend, Mendoza broke the Division I record for RBI in a career (118).
UIW will visit Texas A&M in College Station on Tuesday, April 1.
