SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team lost game three against Houston Christian University, 9-7 on Sunday at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
The Huskies jumped out to an early 6-0 lead after the top of the first. Rob Liddington Jr. singled in a run in the home half of the first to make the score 6-1.
Ryder Hernandez sent a deep fly ball over the left field wall to cut the Husky lead to 6-3 heading into the third.
Liddington crushed a two-run homer in the third to pull the Cardinals within one, 6-5.
The Cardinals tied the game at 6-6 on a bases loaded hit by pitch.
HCU scored runs in the fifth, eighth and ninth to pull ahead 9-6 entering the bottom of the ninth.
Tyler Cowan drove in a run on a double play to bring the final score to 9-7.
UIW will host Texas State on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Sullivan Field.
