SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team lost game two of their three-game set to the University of New Orleans, 10-7 on Saturday at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
The Cardinals struck first, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second. Jake Weaver scored on a wild pitch, and Gray Bane drove in two on a double to right to pull ahead 3-0.
UNO responded in the third, scoring three runs to tie the game at 3-3.
A two-run fourth inning gave the Privateers their first lead, 5-3. Later in the inning, Tyler Cowan drove in a run to pull within one, 5-4.
The Privateers extended their lead to 7-4 with a two-run homer in the sixth.
Rey Mendoza crushed a solo homer to right center to cut the deficit to two, 7-5.
UNO added three insurance runs in the ninth to push the lead to 10-5. The Red and Black scored two in the ninth, bringing the final score to 10-7.
The Cardinals and Privateers will return to Sullivan Field tomorrow for game three. Sunday's first pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
