SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team dropped game two of conference play to Houston Christian University, 10-5 on Saturday at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead on a Rey Mendoza double play in the first.
HCU singled and doubled in a run to take a 2-1 lead entering the middle of the fourth. Later in the inning the Cardinals responded with a sacrifice fly by JD Gregson to tie the game at 2-2.
The Huskies hung eight runs in the fifth to pull ahead 10-2.
UIW homered twice in the seventh to bring the final score to 10-5. Daniel Calabrese sent a two-run homer down the right field line, and Ryan Scott sent a deep fly ball to straightaway center.
UIW and HCU close out the series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Sullivan Field.
