SAN ANTONIO– The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team lost a heartbreaker to Southeastern Louisiana University at the McDermott Center Saturday evening. 
  
Jalin Anderson was the game's leading scorer with 29 points. Davion Bailey and Dylan Hayman added 13 and 10 points respectively to round out the Cardinals who scored in double-figures. 
  
The Lions controlled most of the first half but failed to pull away at any point, only holding a seven-point lead as their largest lead in the half. After the Cardinals made the first basket of the game both teams exchanged buckets until the Lions took a seven-point lead with five minutes left in the half. A late run by the Cardinals brought the deficit down to two entering the break. 
  
Anderson took control in the third consecutive game for UIW, scoring 11 of his 29 points in the first half. Bailey added seven, while Amani Drummond added four off the bench. 
  
In the second half the Cardinals and Lions battled back and forth. Both teams shot the ball well with SLU shooting 48.3% from the field, while UIW shot at a 45.2% clip in the second half. The Cardinals started off the second half with a Bailey three to take their first lead since the 10:31 mark in the first half. Down seven with 3:45 to go the Cardinals went on a 9-0 run to take a 66-64 lead with 1:42 left in the game. The Lions ended the game on a 7-0 run to come away with a 71-66 win.  
  
UIW is back home on Monday night to host the University of New Orleans for Jersey Day.
