SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team visits the University of Texas on Feb. 25 at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Tuesday's game marks the twelfth meeting all-time between the two programs  

UIW  

• Rey Mendoza and Josh Salinas were named to the 2025 Southland Conference Baseball Preseason All-Conference first team. Earlier this month, Salinas was ranked as the 126th-best starting pitcher by D1 Baseball.   

• Rob Liddington Jr. continues to produce at the plate. He leads the country in hits (17) and has the third most total bases (31). Liddington leads the Cardinals, batting .515 through eight games. As a team, the Red and Black lead the country in highest batting average (.393), most doubles (26), most runs scored (100), and most hits (107). The team is also third in OBP (.507) and eighth in slugging percentage (.589). 

• Salinas has been stellar on the mound, pitching to a 0.69 ERA while also leading the team in innings pitched (13.0). Salinas and Jackson Elizondo are tied for the team lead in strikeouts at ten. Salinas has held batters to a .195 batting average, and he is coming off a complete game against Texas Southern this past weekend. 

• The Cardinals enter the week 7-1, the program's best DI start through eight games.  

Scouting the Longhorns  

• Texas finished the 2024 regular season in third place in the Big 12 standings.  

• In the team's first year in the SEC, the conference predicted the Longhorns would finish seventh in the 2025 preseason poll.  

• Max Belyeu leads the team batting .522 with 12 hits, seven RBI, and eight runs scored. Jared Spencer has yet to record a win in two starts but has pitched to a 0.90 ERA. Spencer has struck out 12 batters in ten innings and allowed one run on seven hits.  

• Texas enters the matchup 5-1 after sweeping Dartmouth this past weekend.
