SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team fell 73-68 to the Lady Jacks on Saturday afternoon at the McDermott Center.
Brynn Lusby had a career day, leading the Cardinals in points with 20 off the bench in the loss. Destiny Whitaker also had a big day off the bench, scoring 14. Jorja Elliott scored ten points, five rebounds, and four steals. As a team, the Cardinals tallied 17 steals and five blocks on the defensive end.
UIW got off to a slow start but rallied back late in the first, going 9-18 from the field in the opening quarter. Entering the second quarter, the Cardinals were down 23-19.
Heading into the break, SFA led UIW by one, 37-36. UIW's shooting was on in the second quarter shooting, 54% from the field.
The Cardinals came roaring back in the third to take the lead heading into the fourth quarter. UIW outscored SFA 17-13 to take a 53-50 lead into the final quarter of play.
UIW struggled to drain shots in the fourth quarter as SFA outscored UIW 23-15 in the final frame.
UIW is on the road all next week to close out the 2024-25 regular season. The Cardinals visit Northwestern State on Thursday before traveling to East Texas A&M on Saturday to end the regular season.
