SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team fell 61-53 to the Lady Cardinals on Thursday evening at the McDermott Center.
Myra Bell led the Cardinals in points with 14 in the loss. Jorja Elliott had a near double-double, finishing with 11 points and nine rebounds. On the defensive end, the Cardinals tallied 13 steals and four blocks.
UIW got off to a slow start but rallied back late in the first to enter the second quarter down 13-8.
Heading into the break Lamar led UIW 31-25. UIW's shooting improved in the second quarter, shooting 46% from the field.
The Cardinals came roaring back in the third to tie the game at 44-44. UIW had their most productive shooting quarter in the third, shooting perfect from beyond the arc and 50% from the field.
UIW struggled in the fourth quarter as Lamar outscored UIW 17-9 in the final frame.
UIW is home for the season's final home game on Saturday, as it hosts Stephen F. Austin at 1:00 p.m. The Cardinals will celebrate senior day prior to tip-off.
