SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team lost the final game of their four-game set against Saint Peter's on Sunday at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
The Peacocks got on the board first, scoring an unearned run in the third to take a 1-0 lead. In the bottom half of the third Thomas Lyssy drove in Rob Liddington Jr. to tie the game at 1-1 entering the fourth.
Saint Peter's retook the lead in the fifth on a sacrifice fly. In the seventh the Peacocks drove in two on an RBI double and single to extend the lead to 4-1.
The Cardinals came roaring back in the eighth, driving in four to take their first lead of the game. Tyler Cowan doubled in two to set up a Jake Weaver sacrifice fly to tie the game at 4-4. Kegan Magee gave UIW a 5-4 lead on an RBI double to right field.
The Peacocks drove in four runs in the ninth to win by a final score of 8-5.
Luke Smith had a stellar outing on the mound for UIW allowing just one earned run, while striking out five batters in six innings.
UIW is back in action at Sullivan Field on Tuesday afternoon when they host Abilene Christian University. The first pitch for Tuesday is set for 2:05 p.m.
