SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team defeated Southeastern Louisiana, 66–59, in a wire-to-wire win Wednesday afternoon at the McDermott Center.
The Cardinals had three players score in double figures, led by Madison Cockrell's career-high 20 points. Raimi McCrary recorded her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Londyn Oliphant added a career-high 11 points for her second double-digit scoring performance of the year.
UIW built an eight-point lead after the opening quarter, shooting 47% from the field while holding the Lady Lions to 30.8%. The Cardinals carried a 37–30 advantage into halftime.
Southeastern Louisiana trimmed the deficit in the third quarter, outscoring UIW 17–16. Both teams knocked down seven field goals in the period, sending the Cardinals into the fourth with a 53–47 lead. UIW closed out the contest by outscoring the Lady Lions 13–12 in the final frame to secure the victory.
UIW returns to action Saturday, Jan. 3, hosting Houston Christian at the McDermott Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
