NEW ORLEANS, La. – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team defeated New Orleans, 79–68, on Thursday night at the Lakefront Arena. The Cardinals scored a season-high 79 points in the road victory.
UIW had four players finish in double figures. Brynn Lusby led the Cardinals with a career-high 27 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Raimi McCrary recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Jorja Elliott added 15 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Bria McClure knocked down four three-pointers off the bench to finish with a career-high 12 points.
The Cardinals held an 18–7 advantage heading into the second quarter. UIW stayed hot in the second, shooting 61.5% from the field and 75% from beyond the arc, though the Red and Black were outscored 29–23 in the period. UIW took a 41–36 lead into halftime.
The Cardinals carried the momentum into the third quarter, shooting 53.9% from the field while the Privateers struggled offensively, connecting on just 33% of their attempts. UIW outscored New Orleans 20–16 in the quarter to extend the lead to 61–52 entering the fourth.
UIW put the game away in the final period, shooting 75% from the field and 60% from three-point range to secure the 79–68 win.
UIW returns to action on Monday, Dec. 29, hosting McNeese at the McDermott Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
