THIBODAUX, La. – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team defeated Nicholls, 54–52, on Tuesday night at the David R. Stopher Gymnasium. Raimi McCrary was the hero for the Cardinals, scoring the game-winning layup as time expired. 

UIW had three players finish in double figures. Morgan Borgstadt led the Cardinals with 18 points. Jorja Elliott recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while McCrary added 11 points and seven boards. 

The Colonels held a slim 12–11 lead heading into the second quarter. UIW came out firing in the second, shooting 47% from the field and 50% from three-point range. The Red and Black outscored Nicholls 23–11 in the period to take a 34–23 lead into halftime. 

Nicholls opened the second half on a surge, shooting 42% from the field while UIW struggled offensively, connecting on just 16% of its shots. The Colonels outscored the Cardinals 13–5 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to three, 39–36, entering the fourth. 

UIW held a three-point lead with five minutes remaining before Nicholls rallied to tie the game at 52–52 with 31 seconds left. After a UIW miss, McCrary grabbed the offensive rebound and converted the game-winning shot at the buzzer to secure UIW's first conference win of the season. 

UIW returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 18, taking on New Orleans at the Lakefront Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
