SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team defeated St. Mary's (TX), 65–48 on Thursday afternoon at the McDermott Center.
UIW had two players finish in double figures. Raimi McCrary led the Cardinals with 21 points, eight rebounds, and a game-high three assists, while Jorja Elliott added 18 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
The Cardinals and Rattlers struggled from the first quarter with the frame ending in an 8-8 tie. UIW created separation in the second period, outscoring STMU 23–12 to take a 31–20 lead into halftime. UIW shot 46% from the field in the third to carry a 45-34 lead into the fourth quarter. The Cardinals closed the night shooting 48% in the final frame, outscoring STMU 20–14 to secure the win.
UIW kicks off league play next week on the road. The Cardinals will visit Nicholls on Tuesday, December 16, before heading to New Orleans to take on the Privateers on Thursday, December 18.
